Organic food for Tortoises

Finding good food for your tortoises can be easy and fun.Farm

I have the pleasure of having a local organic farm. I often go there and pick crops they are growing, as well as stray weeds to feed. The benefit of this is that a farm may offer you their stray dandelions for free, and you have a very low risk that they have ever been treated with pesticides.

The website Local Harvest (http://www.localharvest.org/) offers a list of farms around the USA. They list Farms, Farmers markets, and more. Simple visit their site and enter your address. This could be a good resource to help you find farms that are local that you never knew of!

Local HarvestWhen I visit my local organic farm I bring a list mentally, or on paper, of items I am looking for. If you are not sure what to feed then check out our Diet section. Farms sometimes plant clovers as ground cover to inrich the soil when they are not growing a crop. Many species are great for redfoots. Also, you will most likely be able to find dandelions, an excellent food for redfoots. Some farms may even grow it intentionally!
